About Breezie:

Breezie Colbert pronouns She/Her is an HIV Prevention Specialist at The Damien Center, where she works passionately to reduce the spread of HIV and other sexually transmitted infections through education, testing, and community engagement. She has five years going on six years this coming May 2026 of experience in HIV prevention. Breezie provides confidential testing services, leads educational sessions, and distributes safer sex kits in high-traffic areas such as liquor stores, barbershops, and libraries. She also conducts outreach at community events to raise awareness about HIV prevention and encourages everyone to know their status, regardless of their relationship status or sexual orientation.

Driven by her own lived experiences, Breezie shares her personal testimony of resilience and transformation. Raised in the city of Chicago, she has overcome significant challenges, including childhood abuse, homelessness, domestic violence, and addiction. Once a high-ranking gang leader, Breezie made the courageous decision to change her life, returning to school at age 40 to pursue higher education. She now holds an associate’s degree in human services and social work and is deeply committed to serving her community with compassion, authenticity, and purpose.

Breezie’s work reflects her belief that everyone deserves the chance to know their worth, protect their health, and live a life of dignity and hope. Breezie has received the Employee of the Month Award and also the Flo L. Elias Compassion Award while working at the Damien Center.
